Letter to Self – Spring 2024

What do you want your May 2024 self to know?

Dear Tamiraa,

I hope you’re doing well in your classes and responsibilities. I hope you’ve struck a balance between productivity and self-care. Spring break is in one week and I can’t believe how fast time has passed. I’ll be leaving for Dallas, Texas to meet Ulaanaa in exactly two weeks and have finally had the chance to catch up on my work for the CSPL: Ideals into Practice course. I’ve finally started getting the hang of my schedule and have officially finished both of my assignments due on Wednesdays for the the first time and I couldn’t be more excited.

I have been working with Imelda for about four months now and there is still a lot to learn. Work has consistently taken the shape of setting up projects and permissions up until now but I’m meeting Imelda either tomorrow or next week to talk about advancing my role at work. I’m interested in seeing how I can contribute to the work of the University Communication Center as an admin on Workfront. Will my duties expand beyond Workfront? What are things I should focus on to bring something to the table? Those are interesting questions I hope you will have the answer to by the time you’re reading this. Currently, I feel confident that I’ll be working at the UCC until the end of my four years at Wesleyan and I wonder how far that can take me.

In regard to my role as SSP Ambassador at the Sustainability Office, I have an ongoing project to organize an eco-career panel with Ruthann and Felicity. I will be participating by reaching out to alumni, organizing the panel, and getting more information for the existing Alumni List. I also want to organize one event for Earth Month on sustainable practices in your dorm room. I believe it’s the perfect event for our audience of Wesleyan students. However, what is the broader impact of my work? What can I do to expand my work to reach students effectively? Those are questions to think about while working in the Sustainability Office. I hope to develop a closer working relationship with Jen and other co-workers in the office.

Moreover, the course load for the Ideals into Practice is more than I anticipated. How have you fared future Tamiraa? I hope you more closely followed the suggested timeline of the course and didn’t overload yourself during the final week. I believe this course will be a push in the right direction for us as we prepare for the summer internship search. I will take this opportunity to build a professional and designer portfolio to show to future employers and partners. I should also make note to automate it so that it’s easy to maintain and sync with my life. Time management and self-marketing are two important skills I want to gain from this experience. I will keep these two as bullet points in my mind and work hard!

Sincerely,

Tamiraa
